Experienced Barista (Full-time / Part-time)
We are looking for Experienced Baristas to join our small and growing team as a long-term key member of Rikka Fika.
As one of our values to take our craft seriously, we’re in search of candidates with a deep appreciation for the craft of coffee-making and science behind coffee, and has a serious passion for extensive coffee knowledge. As such, for full-time baristas we offer company-funded access to online-based certification programs and dedicated work hours in the weekly schedules for required learning and development. This requirement (and perk) for sponsored continuous coffee education applies to all levels from junior to lead baristas.
The ideal candidate will also possess the capability to share their honed knowledge with our guests in engaging and easily comprehensible ways, taking part in crafting “An Oasis Where Anyone Can Easily Enjoy A Seriously Good Coffee Experience.”

What you will do:
- Operate POS and interact with guests in a manner that’s aligned with Rikka Fika’s style of hospitality.
- Use and perform basic routine maintenance a variety of commercial tools and equipments, such as espresso machine, grinders, kettles, and cold brew machine.
- Make all drinks on the menu to the provided specification, both independently and while coordinating with teammates.
- Make pour-overs to specifications set by the lead barista.
- Independently execute all opening and closing tasks, including dialing in espresso to the specified taste profile.
- Prepare all needed materials and ingredients, including washing, cutting, and packaging food items.
- Proactively keep the back-bar and supplies stocked during service.
- Keep all work surfaces, wares, tools and equipments clean and presentable while following all procedures and policies set forth by the company and the health department.
- Manage inventory and receive deliveries, ensuring all products are adequately stocked and stored in designated areas.
- Assist in multiple stations, as needed.
- Onboard other new barista members
- Contribute to team-level discussions such as menu item R&D and bar-flow improvements.
- (For full-time) Complete required certification programs within the specified timeframe. Some examples of required courseworks include: basic / advanced extraction science, understanding of coffee terrior and processing methods, milk science, basic roasting science, etc.
Qualifications:
- Experienced working as a coffee barista in a commercial setting (1 year+ specialty coffee experience preferred)
- San Diego Food Handlers certificate (or obtain one by your first day)
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to smell, see, taste, speak, hear.
- Ability to walk or stand for long periods of time.
- Must be able to reach, bend, stoop, and climb. As well as, lift, push, pull and carry heavy objects (up to 50 lbs).
- This position requires manual dexterity and control, for complex tasks and to make fast, simple repeated movements of fingers, hands and wrists.

Benefits:
- $20/hr probationary part-time training for first month, $20~$23/hr thereafter depending on experience, plus pooled tip.
