Leaves Coffee
Leaves Coffee is a light-roasting coffee roaster, focused on sweetness and aroma. It has quickly made a name for itself in the coffee world, with founder Yasuo Ishii setting a bold goal – to become the world's roasting champion, and they’re well on their way having earned many of Japan's top titles throughout various coffee competitions. Despite their competitive spirit, when we visited their Tokyo shop in person, we were met with warmth and hospitality. Their space was tucked away in a small alley, and lined with deep emerald tiles and an aged shop sign. Quiet in style, but deeply intentional. We luckily met founder Yasuo, and even in that brief encounter, his passion and precision for coffee were immediately felt, along with a spirit that reflects omotenashi – a sincere, thoughtful care in how something is prepared and offered. At Leaves, each coffee is treated with reverence, from luxuriously rare offerings to accessible daily beans, allowing all coffee lovers to partake in the experience. What we admire most about Leaves is the balance: an uncompromising quality from the coffee, yet always grounded in warmth and approachability from the people. That sense of craft with gentleness is something that has resonated with us since the earliest days of Rikka Fika.
